The exhibit “A Better Life for Their Children” represents how the Black community pulled together to build 4978 schools for Black students in the Jim Crow Era with matching funds from the Rosenwald Fund. Today there are less than 500 schools remaining. Brooks Avenue School in Memphis organized a reunion of students of this Rosenwald School to experience the exhibition and recall their stories.
