#OnThisDay in 1965, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was signed into law. This act was passed to make imposing literacy tests, poll taxes, and other forms of discrimination illegal against Black voters.
During this time, parts of the South challenged this and many failed to follow this law.
Today, voter suppression tactics still exist. We must protect the voting rights for all! Register to vote and use your voice.
