Hot springs are the most common hydrothermal features in yellowstonenps. Beginning as precipitation, the water of a hot spring seeps through the bedrock and becomes superheated at depth. Water temperatures within some springs exceed the boiling point. Feelin’ hot hot hot! It will. Water in hot springs can be 200 degrees Fahrenheit or hotter and can cause severe or fatal burns, and scalding water underlies most of the thin, breakable crust around hot springs. It’s important to stay safe around them —for the sake of your health and the health of the geothermal features. Remember to: 🔥 Always walk on boardwalks or designated trails around thermal features. 🔥 Don’t touch any thermal features or runoff. Because they’re hot. 🔥 Never swim, soak, or wade in or around thermal features or springs at Yellowstone. 🔥 Don’t throw any objects into thermal features or go after your hat that blew in. Think of it as nature’s way of improving your style. Image 1: Screenshot of NPS tweet with...
