Treemendous! Seeing a giant sequoia for the first time is quite the experience. It’s a great story to tell your friends back home: “Yeah, I saw a tree so big, it made me question my place in the universe. How’s your day going?” In Yosemite National Park’s Mariposa Grove, the towering giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) known as the Grizzly Giant has dominated the surrounding forest for thousands of years. The striking size and beauty of this massive ancient being, one of the largest living organisms on Earth, has attracted countless visitors to the grove for over a century and a half. It is estimated to weigh several million pounds (an estimate because, well, getting it to step on a scale would prove challenging).
