Several key anatomical features contribute to the owl’s signature Judgy McJudgeface: large, wide eyes, bony sockets called sclerotic rings, and bristly, pointed feathers or tufts called plumicorns, think scowling eyebrows, make a formidable face. Combined with a hooked, forward facing beak, and you’ve got a recipe for a face that dares your colleague to prolong the morning meeting with one more question. Do you feel lucky?
