Going to tell the kids this is @JoshuaTreeNPS. Wait a sec, kiddos, that’s Mojave Trails National Monument. Spanning 1.6 million acres between Barstow and Needles, California, Mojave Trails is managed by our friends @mypubliclands. It’s a stunning mosaic of rugged mountain ranges, ancient lava flows, and spectacular sand dunes. Connecting Mojave National Preserve with Joshua Tree National Park, the monument also contains the longest remaining undeveloped stretch of Route 66. Just like the National Park Service, the Bureau of Land Management takes care of diverse public lands across the country. Many are located next door or very near national parks. On National Plan For Vacation Day, there’s no better time to add Mojave Trails or similar public lands to your itinerary. Keep in mind that some areas can be remote and a bit challenging. Flip flops?
