Spider Cat, Spider Cat. Does whatever a Spider Cat does.
What exactly is that? It’s just your friendly neighborhood spider cat. Action is its reward. All kitten aside, the cat-faced spider (Araneus gemmoides) is a nocturnal orb-weaver spider that is common in parks like Idaho’s cratersofthemoon_nps, though it has a large range spanning much of the country. Females can grow up to 25mm (about 1 inch). Like their feline counterparts, they are covered with tiny hairs which allows them to use their “spidey-sense” to feel their environment similar to a cat’s whiskers. The abdomen of the cat-faced spider varies in shape, but always has two spikes that resemble cat ears and two dimples resembling eyes. Yep, that’s the back end you’re looking at. Will this spider scratch? Maybe, but they are considered harmless and have low-toxicity venom. Will it come when you call it. Not likely. Does it judge you from afar. Always.
