Recharging in your burrow after consecutive days of social interaction…
Remember, staying home is doing something, and managing your energy is a favor to yourself and everyone around you. You rock, pika! Wait. That is a rock. Pika (Ochotona princeps) are particularly good at recharging their social batteries. They love a rocky slope and will often choose a burrow in the crack between rocks. In addition to providing protection from predators, these burrows serve as winter food storage. In the summer, the pika collects leaves and grasses. In winter, they tunnel underneath the snow between these hidden burrows filled with food. Same. Except underneath a body blanket with arm openings available for easy retrieval of the potato chip bag.
