Outside of their denning season, bears predictably congregate in food rich areas throughout Katmai. Come #FatBearWeek, you would hardly recognize them. Well, maybe. At Brooks Camp, brown bears congregate to feed on sockeye salmon in the Brooks River. Four wildlife viewing platforms along the river offer safe and spectacular wildlife viewing opportunities while minimizing the potential impact on the bears. The viewing platform at the falls fit 40 people at a time. Rangers manage a waitlist to give everyone a turn, and wait times can be up to two hours during the busiest time of year.
