Is it edible? Can I pet it? What are the top two questions asked on national park social media posts? Answer: You can eat or pet anything. Sometimes only once. Why take the chance? Nature is amazing. Nature also has no qualms about putting you in your place. Often on your backside. Whether you come across strange vegetation or a cuddly wild animal, always ask yourself, “Is my insurance policy up to date, is there a decent picture on my social media that can be used on the news,” “do I have an extra pair of pants,” and the biggest question of all….”should I?” If you have any doubts, whatsoever, take a step back and reevaluate the situation. Check your guidebook, ask a ranger, or just admire from afar. Image: My toxic trait is that I’m toxic. Plant parts (fresh or dried) and extracts made from Euphorbia marginata Pursh (Snow On The Mountain), can be toxic if ingested by humans. NPS/T.
