Someone’s a fawn of the smize… Fierce. Hey, it’s that time of year again where “Odocoileus virginianus,” better known as White-tailed deer are giving birth to their fawns. The fawns’ classic white spots (never goes out of style) are great camouflage in wooded or brushy areas, and the young ones have no natural scent that potential predators might use to track them down. Of course, that doesn’t work in some settings. On occasion, the fawns might be found in somewhat awkward places, like this one that ended up on the @saratoga_nps back patio a couple of years ago. If you encounter a fawn in the woods, on a hiking trail, or any other location, don’t worry! The mother’s probably just feeding nearby and will be back to get the little one soon. Look but don’t touch. How about a smile? #RecreateResponsibly #historyandnature #scienceandhistory #fawn #smize #nationalparks
