The morning broke peacefully over Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, 80 years ago today. But just before 8:00 a.m., waves of Imperial Japanese aircraft screamed out of the sky, attacking the large naval base and airfield. More than 2,400 Americans were lost that day, including 1,177 on board the USS Arizona. At Pearl Harbor National Memorial, home of the USS Arizona Memorial, you can learn more about one of the most pivotal moments in American history and the subsequent entry of the United States into World War II. Today, survivors, veterans, and visitors from around the world come together in remembrance. Image 1: US Navy Sailors stand at attention along the USS Arizona Memorial ramp.
