I choose you! The Falcon Sphinx caterpillar (Xylophanes falco), photographed at Grass Shack campground at @saguaronationalpark, shows a perfect example of mimicry camouflage found in many of the sphinx moths and swallowtails. Why turn into a moth (or butterfree) if you can be a snake? When threatened, these caterpillars will retract their heads which brings the large eye shaped spots to the front of their bodies in an attempt to trick the would be predator into thinking that the caterpillar is larger than it is and should be avoided.
