George Washington slept here…
The house at 105 Brattle Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts was witness to many significant events. It was here that George Washington took command of the Continental Army during the American Revolution. It was later home to poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (Paul Revere’s Ride, Hiawatha, and Evangeline, to name a few) for nearly 50 years. Over the years, the house welcomed literary figures such as Charles Dickens and Nathaniel Hawthorne, along with politicians, actors, and musicians. Built in 1759, it stands as an excellent example of mid-Georgian architecture style. In 1972, the home and all of its furnishings were donated to the National Park Service. It looks pretty good during the fall too!
