Located in southwestern Minnesota, Pipestone National Monument helps preserve and share the heritage and stories of Indigenous peoples every day by protecting not only the sacred pipestone quarries but also the legacy of quarrying that has persisted for thousands of years and spanned countless generations. Pipestone consults with 23 different affiliated tribes to make important decisions about topics such as pipe sales, new museum exhibits, and land management practices. The park also creates and provides opportunities for Native American youth through employment and internship offerings, grant-funded field trips to visit Pipestone, and unique cultural programs incorporating aspects of both current and traditional Indigenous beliefs and practices.
