“I wonder how I can talk you out of ever making that face again.” - Michael Bluth⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ While great horned owls can be easily identified by their horn-like tufts, and white patch of feathers on the chest, they are very well camouflaged. Their brown, black, white and gray streaked body feathers, help them blend well with the surroundings. These raptors have giant cat-like yellow eyes that do not move. Since their eyes don't move, they turn their head to see in different directions. There’s a good chance you’ve heard the deep, soft, stuttering hoots of this owl: hoo-h’HOO-hoo-hoo. This owl uses this hoot to advertise its territory. It can also make a variety of other sounds, including whistles, barks, shrieks, hisses, coos, and wavering cries. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Image : Great horned owl with one eye closed sits in a tree at gulfislandsnps.
