D’oh! You might say the Pinyon pine (Pinus edulis) likes living on the edge. It’s a tough tree, bursting from dry, steep and rocky soils inhospitable to many other species. You might be thinking, “dude, that’s one gnarly tree.” Yes…it is. Rough scaly branches extend from a trunk that is often twisted and warped. Tree gonna tree. Do not imitate this pine. Visitors should always remain a safe distance from the edge.
