The Pine Rocklands, also called the Pinelands, have hard rocky ground, made up of limestone. The pinelands are found on higher ground and a bit of elevation makes all the difference here! This makes it a dry habitat, unlike the majority of the Everglades. They are extremely unique -- the ‪Long Pine Key‬ area in ‪@evergladesnps holds around 80% of all remaining pine rockland found in Florida⁣ ⁣ This globally imperiled habitat is a hotspot for plant biodiversity and is home to several federally listed endangered species such as the eastern indigo snake and our state mammal, the Florida panther.⁣ ⁣ Image: Slash pine trees and vegetation within the fog.
