Kathryn Berg is our next woman of SUU we are featuring - leading up to our banquet on September 21, 2022 to celebrate 50 years of Title IX. Berg had an immense impact on SUU women’s sports from 1968 to 2001 and still does to this day. She is known for developing our women’s intercollegiate athletic programs and oversaw the transition into the NCAA Division I. She coached and led gymnastics, volleyball, basketball, softball, tennis, swimming, and track & field during her 33 years at SUU. From sewing numbers and personalized patches into shirts and cleaning stadiums so they could be playable, Berg always went above and beyond to make female athletes feel valued. Berg acknowledges how hard it was to be an early pioneer in Women’s Sports, but this didn’t discourage her. When things didn’t go her way, Berg didn’t stop; she kept pushing.
