After a tour of Maynard Children’s Hospital, and what initially started as Pirate baseball teammates donating Christmas gifts for children, Carter Cunningham, former East Carolina University baseball player, established Homers that Help with the ECU Health Foundation, where fans and community members pledge money for every home run that the Pirates hit during the season. To date, Carter and his team have helped raise over $30,000 that goes directly to supporting pediatric patients and their families during hospital stays. Carter was recently awarded the 2024 American Athletic Conference Community Impact Award for his work. See more about Carter's journey: go.ecuhealth.org/46bfAiQ.
