Current and former Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) patients stopped by the Heart Café in the East Carolina Heart Institute at Vidant Medical Center Wednesday afternoon to celebrate their “VAD”iversary. These patients and their loved ones were treated to a delicious meal, soft drinks and a cake while they also reflected on their journey, one year after being the first patients here to receive the LVAD.
“The LVAD has given quality to my life,” Walton Jones, the first patient to receive the LVAD at VMC, said. “I can now do everything that I could not do before. I’m so happy to celebrate the fact that I am still here today.”
