Medical faculty and students recently viewed the PBS Frontline Documentary “Being Mortal” as part of Internal Medicine’s Grand Rounds in the Vidant Medical Center Auditorium. More than eighty participants attended, giving them the opportunity to be a part of a national conversation regarding the shared responsibility of discussing what matters most to patients and families facing difficult treatment decisions. Vidant Health supports this initiative by encouraging that these conversations be held ahead of a medical crisis. Dr. Paul Bolin, BSOM Internal Medicine Department Chair, led the discussion following the movie. He shared a personal story of his own struggle to share difficult news with a long-time patient. This event was a collaborative effort of Vidant’s Palliative Care and Advance Care Planning Teams, and East Carolina physicians. If you are interested in learning about future events, or would like to host a viewing and discussion of “Being Mortal”, please contact Vicki Dough...
