#tbt 5 years ago this kid walked onto the field during tryouts (at Monterey High) having NEVER played softball before in her life. Ever. She was a cheerleader who was trying out for softball and I thought, "oh boy! This is gonna be interesting!" She couldn't throw, catch, or field a grounder... But... She had passion. She was competitive. And most importantly, she was dedicated. She ended up being my starting 2nd baseman, third batter in the order, & led the team in home runs, grand slams (she had two in one game) and pretty much EVERY hitting category there is. This cheerleader, turned softball player, earned the MVP award at the conclusion of the season.... Her nickname was "The Black Widow" ... Her real name, Christen Larkin... So what's the moral of the story? If you want something bad enough and are dedicated enough to work for it...
