Do you have medical debt? Or does someone you love have it? Well, here’s some good news if so:
A new federal rule announced last month will ban medical debt from affecting credit reports. The new rule — which is expected to go into effect next year unless it’s reversed by a potential Trump administration — means that debt will no longer be able to depress your credit score and make it more difficult for you to get a job, rent an apartment, or secure a mortgage or car loan.
“No one should be denied access to economic opportunity because they experienced a medical emergency,” Vice President Kamala Harris recently said.
The rule could help as many as 15 million Americans.
