VCOP Spotlight April 2021 JOE LOPEZ Joe’s motto is: “If you want to be the best, you have to learn to serve the rest.” A US Coast Guard veteran and New York City carpenter by trade, Joe was used to climbing high to build skyscrapers and going low to build subways. But when an injury ended that career, he poured his energy into lots of volunteer work – ombudsman, chaplain, teacher, and VCOP – because he loves feeling part of something important. This is especially true of his work on patrol for the police department. Joe enjoys meeting new people and getting to know different areas of the city. He and his wife of 32 years moved to Palm Bay almost 2 years ago. Their family includes a daughter and 2 sons. In his spare time, he swims, walks, and studies the Bible.
