The mission of The Sonder Project is to empower impoverished communities through high-impact, sustainable development. Each month we take a moment to define the key elements of this mission, and shed light on what they mean to us and how we work to achieve them. Today we focus again on 'high-impact'! Before we undertake a new drilling project for a deep-water well in a rural community, we conduct a comprehensive survey of the surrounding villages to ensure that the well can have maximum impact. For example, we traverse the entire community, collect population data, and hold a series of mass meetings with community members. We also ensure that at least 150 women & girls in the community will have convenient walking-distance access to the new well. After the well is drilled, we interview at least 30 women to understand their feedback about the new water source and how their lives have been transformed by it.
