From the wreckage of Hurricane Michael, new friendships were born. Tonya and Charles live two houses down from one another, but never spoke much before the storm. As Charles tells it, “after riding out the storm and feeling lucky to be alive, I spent two days clearing trees to be able to escape down the street. I hadn’t seen anyone that whole time until I was finally able to cut through and there was Tonya. We never really spoke before that, but we hugged, and she had tears in her eyes and I did too. She said she was just happy to know someone else was there with her on the block. We’ve been best friends ever since.” This picture was taken on Tonya’s porch as The Sonder Project has helped both these homeowners in their recovery.
