Today we celebrate the stellar organization Taking Up Space. Located in Arizona, this incredible nonprofit was founded by Czarina Salido in 2016 to give middle-school-aged Native American girls the skills and confidence to dream big, pursue their own passions and succeed in STEAM. According to the National Science Foundation, only 0.1% of scientists and engineers are Native American women. Taking Up Space is dedicated to increasing Native American representation and decreasing the gender gap in STEAM fields. This amazing organization provides several programs, after-school activities, and field trips including 36 weeks of mentorship in STEAM education, Indigenous arts, and confidence building. After the completion of the program the girls are rewarded a six day all expense paid trip to NASA’s Space Camp in Huntsville, AL.
