Meet Mary and Mildred Davidson, the most prolific female sibling inventors in American history! Both born in the town of Monroe, North Carolina, this dynamic duo set their intention on improving the quality of life. Eventually patenting several household items, women’s products and even a board game. Before the popularity of disposable pads, women were using cloth pads and rags during their Menstrual Cycle. Mary and Mildred invented a better solution, a sanitary belt created by Mary and subsequent moisture-resistant pocket for the belt created by Mildred. The invention was patented 30 years after it was introduced because the company, initially interested, rejected it when they realized Mary was African-American. Nevertheless the two continued innovating. The sisters patented a bathroom toilet tissue holder that allowed the loose end of a roll to be accessible at all times.
