Dr. George Carruthers was an African American inventor, astrophysicist and engineer.  He attended The University of Illinois where he earned his Bachelors of Science degree in physics in 1961, his Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering in 1962, and his Ph.D. in Aeronautical and Astronautical engineering in 1964. Building his first telescope at the age of 10, George R. Carruthers later went on to become the principal designer of the ultraviolet camera, or spectrograph, a telescope that went to the moon as part of NASA's Apollo 16 mission in 1972. Thank you to Dr. Carruthers, for paving the way to the world’s better understanding of infinity and beyond! #Georgecarruthers #Blackhistorymonth #blackengineers #engineers #engineersweek #Africanamericanengineers #telescope #NASA #Apollo16 #STEAM #STEM #STEAMeducation #STEMeducation
