Hattie Scott Peterson earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1946 from Howard University, making her the First Female African-American Civil Engineer in the United States. After her degree, Hattie Scott Peterson then went on to work as a survey and cartographic engineer for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) right here in Sacramento, California.
