Happy Rosa Parks Day! The “Mother of the Civil Rights movement” Rosa Parks was born on February 4, 1913. Her tremendous strides helped initiate the civil rights movement in the United States after refusing to give up her seat to a white man on a Montgomery, Alabama bus in 1955. Her actions inspired the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which is considered a turning point in the Civil Rights Movement. During which she continued to be a leader for Civil Rights. The Supreme Court eventually declared that segregation on public buses was unconstitutional. On February 4, 2000 the California State Legislature created and first celebrated Rosa Parks Day.
