Even though we’re temporarily closed, we’re still studying (and drinking) Italian wine! This Wine Wednesday we’re taking a little (virtual) trip to one of our favorite wine regions of Italy: Barolo! 🇮🇹
Did you know that Barolo is often referred to as the “King of Wines”? It was widely popular among the nobility of Turin in Piedmont throughout the 1800s, and Barolo has most certainly reached icon status in today’s world of wine. Yes, these wines often come with a “royal” price tag, but there’s justified reason to treat yourself to a bottle of Barolo.
Barolo must be made with 100% Nebbiolo, quite the picky grape that can transform into an incredibly delicious and complex wine under the right conditions. Nebbiolo is happiest planted above the fog, or nebbia, of Barolo’s rolling hills. Vineyards are located within the 11 strictly delimited Barolo communes, on the best sites with ideal sun exposure.
