As part of the Tempe 150 Celebration on Sunday, November 7, Councilmembers had the opportunity to submit an item to go into a time capsule. We are honored that Councilmember Adams chose to have something represented by Tempe Community Action Agency. . TCAA’s will include a dress worn by Guadalupe Hernandez Esquer (“Lupe”) and a hat worn by Jenny Norton, daughter of Barbara Norton. In 1966 Lupe and Barbara launched “Operation Grassroots” in La Victoria, a section of Tempe now known as Victory Acres. In 1971 Operation Grassroots became TCAA. Today TCAA remains steadfast in its mission to alleviate poverty, hunger, and homelessness, impacting the lives of 38,000 adults and children annually. .
