It is the first game in the Super Monkey Ball series. The arcade cabinet of Monkey Ball is unique for its banana-shaped joystick which functions as an analog device similar to a trackball versus a standard 4 or 8 way joystick, this gives you the ability to not only choose the direction but also control the speed of the monkey with the joystick itself. All the bananas in the game are sponsored by Dole, a practice that would carry through to its successor, Super Monkey Ball and Super Monkey Ball 2.
