Luca Vitale, Mizzou Hockey broadcast manager, chats with Mizzou Hockey's FIRST-EVER captain, Steve McElroy, as the ACHA D3 National Tournament nears. The Tigers earned the No. 4 seed and will compete in Pool D, which consists of (5) Air Force, (12) Central Maine Community College, and (13) Michigan State. Steve discusses his hockey journey from Kirkwood High School in St. Louis to SLU and landing at Mizzou. Steve's father began the Kirkwood Hockey youth and high school programs, among other programs in the St. Louis area. He's in the 2009 Amateur Hall of Fame. Steve was a walk-on at SLU, and a lack of playing time contributed to his transfer to Mizzou. Columbia built Ice Chalet near Grindstone Parkway and highway U.S. 63 in 1974. Steve recruited several of his former teammates from Kirkwood to compete at Mizzou when they established the team in 1976.
