Please read🔊 As we come closer and closer to the end of February, black history month, I think it is important that we use these last few days to educate ourselves on the issues going on in our sport and look for ways we can do more. I invite you all to read this amazing essay by our friend nhlblak58 on the issues of racism in hockey. Not just to black people, but at indigenous and Asian people as well. It is raw, it is candid and It’ll make you think. 🤔 Here is an extract: I’ve heard “go play basketball”, “the puck is the only thing that should be black on the ice”, “Hey, token boy”, “this ain’t the jungle”, shouldn't you be playing Football with yo homies?!”. And so on. Seen Bananas, watermelons, KFC chicken thrown on the ice. Seen blackface at games....by parents, no less. I’ve also seen my Indigenous teammates & brothers be called “Tonto”, “Redskin”, “Chief”; taunted using the “war cry” and tomahawk chop. I’ve seen my Asian teammates & brothers hear “ching, chong”, be call...
