When blackpeoplewhohike reached out to bring me in as cinematographer for their NPT docuseries, there was a depth to it, it felt like it was something that had been in the atmosphere manifesting and finally came to materialize. Finishing this 3rd tour with them I sit here playing out the memories of this trip and it dawns on me that I needed this at this time of my life, to have strangers turn into very good friends to hear the stories of these black individuals who love themselves and love the outdoors as much and are intentionally showing the world that people who look like them belong out here too! A huge part about thriving as Black people is knowing who we are and why we are who we are; That way we can face the world having internalized our own truths not waiting for others to define US.
