Our state has been plagued by this invasive species since it first appeared here in 1995. In 2009, an official quarantine against Japanese beetles was established in Colorado and we’re still trying to fight them off today. Here’s your bonus tip to keep them from taking over:
Japanese beetles enjoy eating geraniums, but certain phytochemicals in geraniums cause paralysis in the beetles within 30 minutes of consumption. The paralysis lasts for hours and predators generally pick them off before they can recover.
