On Friday I shared the Invisible Load of Hearing Loss but I want to share why I am thankful for my deaf/hard of hearing journey 💕 ➡️When I was 3, I was identified with mild hearing levels secondary to Enlarged Vestibular Aqueduct Syndrome+Pendred Syndrome and fit with bilateral hearing aids ➡️My mom was told that I would not go beyond a third grade reading level ➡️As a result of EVAS, my hearing levels worsened each time I hit my head. By age 10 years old I had profound sensorineural hearing loss bilaterally ➡️During my senior year of college I had another sudden drop in hearing. ➡️I was sitting in the lobby waiting to have my hearing evaluated when my mom suggested that I’d make a good audiologist since I had firsthand experience with hearing loss and hearing aids. This suggestion floored me. 🎉YES.
