Implementing the jump setting offense has been a journey and continues to be!
A big vision for our team was to jump set at a high level this coming season. The ceiling is so high and there is so much low hanging fruit.
It’s great because...
1) Teams don’t see it much, so their defensive instincts on it are in a younger stage than typical volleyball. The defensive information processing increases significantly and it is a more complex chess game, in theory.
2) It is fun and you look cool doing it. Cannot overstate the importance of this, and when looking cool and actually being good align, as I believe it does in this case, you’ve hit the jackpot!
It’s tough because...
1) It is harder to execute. More moving parts to coordinate.
2) Even when executed properly it is metabolically taxing (lots of energy needed to implement). More jumps does have an impact over the course of a match and tournament.
