As part of our month-long celebration of Party for the Planet with the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA), here’s a sneak peek into the Florida Reef Tract Rescue Project and our animal of the month, Eusmilia fastigiata! In collaboration with AZA, Butterfly Pavilion procured Smooth Flower Coral, or Eusmilia fastigiata, and other coral species in 2020 in response to the alarming Stony Coral Tissue Loss observed in the Florida Reef Tract. Since then, we’ve found great success in bringing these coral back to health and are working to learn more about Stony Coral Tissue Loss and what efforts can be made to restore the coral in the Florida Reef Tract!
