In honor of Party for the Planet with the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA), here’s some highlights on our tarantula breeding and rearing at Butterfly Pavilion. AZA’s program Safety Web For Arthropod Reproduction and Management (SWARM), focuses on keeping vulnerable arthropods (insects, spiders, crustaceans, etc) in zoo collections by breeding and refraining from wild collection. Butterfly Pavilion supports this program by actively working to breed and maintain sustainable populations of Chilean Rose Hair Tarantulas (Rosie). In doing so, we can share best practices for sustaining these amazing animals. To donate monthly and make a lasting impact on programs like our tarantula breeding, join Friends of Rosie, a monthly giving program starting at just $5 a month. This is your opportunity to support Butterfly Pavilion and our global invertebrate research, conservation, and education efforts.
