Link in bio. I wrote this as a letter to my cousin who passed unexpectedly. The title is an inside joke we had since we were kiddos. I was asked to perform this for songbookjax’s #nestsession and was immediately uncomfortable (more so than usual). Not only is it such a personal piece, it is still new, raw, and completely unfiltered. I am still working to navigate the melody between two keys while simultaneously holding back tears. I wasn’t going to post this because it lacks the luster and shine to which our ears have adapted, and didn’t want to appear frayed and unpolished. Today I am working to be kinder to myself which entails no longer allowing my insecurities as an artist and writer to stymie my work (at least for now 😂).
