In the desert region of Masafer Yatta in the southern West Bank, this inspiring Palestinian elder takes it upon himself to drive children to school using his tractor every day since many villages in Yatta lack nearby schools. This is just one of the many struggles endured by the residents of Masafer Yatta. Since 1981, they have been facing expulsion threats and demolition orders. That year, the Israeli army designated the area as a firing zone – a closed military zone. Since then, Israeli authorities have been putting extraordinary pressure on them to leave the area, in what may amount to a forcible transfer, prohibited under International Humanitarian Law.
