We all have indigenous ancestors and culture no matter where we’re from and to see the native Hawaiians at #MaunaKea being pushed away is heartbreaking. For those that aren’t aware of what’s going on, the government is attempting to build a 30 meter telescope for scientific purposes on the tallest mountain in the world (below sea level) which happens to be on the Big Island of Hawai’i. It’s a 1.4 billion dollar project and by doing so, not only will it cause harm to the mountain but it will destroy the most sacred place to the native Hawaiian people. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened and the people of the island are fighting for what’s theirs. They have created a non-violent and peaceful protest by locking arms and using their positive energy to #ProtectMaunaKea.
