A Story of Firsts: The Journey of Women's Water Polo to the Olympics 🤽🏽‍♀️🌊 The first team sport in the Olympic Games was men’s water polo in 1900. It took 100 years of advocating & fighting for the women to first be included in the games. In 1996 the sport was added to the list of "emerging sports" for possible inclusion in future Olympic Games. Finally, in 2000, after years of hard work and dedication, the dream became a reality as the first-ever women's water polo tournament was held at the Olympics in Sydney. These photos show the first team to represent and win a medal for USA Women’s Water Polo. Currently, the usawp women’s team is on the first-ever winning streak in the Olympics for women’s water polo, securing the gold for the past three games.
