Last night, not only did I get to share a space with some of my favorite artists…but I got to witness martellusa’s beautiful celebration of the life of prolific artist, Loïs Mailou Jones. For those of you that may not be familiar, Mailou Jones was not only an extremely talented Black Woman Artist, but one who was so determined to leave her mark that she was forced to receive recognition for her work under the guise of being a white woman for years. A legacy that we are still celebrating nearly 100 years later… As a black woman artist, still on her own journey, I am grateful for pioneers like Loïs Mailou Jones for paving the way for artists like myself and I’m grateful to the Martell brand for not only highlighting this but for taking the time to uplift the next generation of black creatives. #MartellPartner
