On John Muir Trail thru-hike day 3, we climbed up Mt. Whitney - the highest peak in the contiguous U.S. at 14,505 feet. Of all the 14,000-foot peaks that I’ve done, this one honestly seemed the easiest (though of course not easy). We slept the night before at Guitar Lake, around 11,500 feet, so I think that made a huge difference in acclimating to the high elevation. We also left most of our gear behind at the lake and picked it up on the way back, which of course helped tremendously. Big thanks to thathikergirl for forcing me to hike a couple of 14ers earlier in summer 😂, which I’m sure went a long way in helping me prepare. Bonus: we had the most perfect weather day at the top of the peak! Sunny, warm, and no breeze. Couldn’t have asked for a better day! Stay tuned as I’ll have a YouTube video up next week from this climb. What’s the highest peak that you’ve climbed?! . . . #johnmuirtrail #jmt #jmt2023 #backpacking #hiking #thruhike #mtwhitney #14er #14ers #getoutstayout #californi...
