Yesterday, I finally got to visit one of my favorite hiking spots in Boulder - Heil Ranch - after a two-year hiatus. I used to come here all the time my first year or so in Boulder, but two years ago, this special place burned in the Cal-Wood Fire. I was devastated - this was such a tranquil space, and I’d seen so much wildlife here - turkeys, deer, a cinnamon bear that I watched clumsily scale a wire fence. It opened back up in June, but I was generally hiking harder trails this summer in preparation for my Colorado Trail thru-hike, so I was a little slow in getting back here. Anyway, I was a bit nervous to see the effects of the fire in person, and the burned up trees were a bit of a sad sight, but I was amazed at how well the plants had already bounced back. If it weren’t for the charred trees, I might not have known anything had ever happened. 🖤 Anyway, it felt great to be back. Cheers to healing and renewed growth! . It feels appropriate to be out and about in this devastated but...
